The Champion House is a combination Japanese / Chinese restaurant in downtown Ann Arbor on East Liberty Street. We ate at the Chinese side of the establishment. The decor of the Champion House is tasteful and traditional with modern effects. The walls have mirrors with traditional Chinese paintings on them, but they are lit from the back. The indirect lighting is tastefully done. The entire 'feeling' of the dining room seems to me to be well thought out.
Our party ordered a wide variety of food from the menu. Everyone was quite pleased with the portion size and quality of both the staff and the food. The Sesame chicken dinner that I ordered was what I consider perfect: crispy breading and tender meat. When done correctly, the breading does not become soft when served. The veggies were done just right, and were still crispy (which means correctly stir fried.

The meal was served with a nice portion of rice, which was cooked almost perfectly. Even though the rice was somewhat sticky, that's good when you are eating with chopsticks. Why? Because at the Champion House, the food is delivered with chopsticks. I decided to attempt using them to amuse my dining companions. Much to my surprise, there were instructions included with them on their usage. I ate my meal with chopsticks without mishap. Even after a few Japanese beers, I was able to use this traditional Asian method of eating.
Learning to use chopsticks correctly is a good reason to go to the Champion House for dinner.
The next time we dine there, we'll try the Japanese bar.

notes:come on, this is downtown. The parking is a joke, so add your meal into other activities. Careful planning will make this a 10.
